This class is used to enhance the flow of energy or chi through the body combining two approaches of teaching into one practice: one approach is yin – passive and restorative holds and the other approach is yang – active stretching and strengthening using fluid circular movements. Each sequence is created to be very balancing in terms of creating posture sequences that work both yin (joints and connective tissue) and yang (muscle tissue) parts of the body.

Learn the foundational yoga postures typically practiced in a yoga-asana sequence. A wonderful class for those new to yoga, just learning the basics of alignment, breath and intention. This class is also recommended to more experienced yogis that want to spend more time enhancing their body awareness. There are five different class formats for this class, each with a different posture theme, they are: 1.Standing Poses, 2. Forward Bends & Twists, 3. Hip Openers & Side Bends, 4. Sun Salutations & Backbends, and 5. Inversions. Each class includes a balance of poses from a variety of posture categories while remaining focused on a particular theme. The goal of all yoga practices is yoga - union; the realization of the interconnectedness of all beings and things, bliss, oneness, enlightenment. This is a class solely focused on body-mind relaxation and rejuvenation. A combination of restorative stretches and guided breathing (pranayama), meditation and relaxation will be introduced. This Deaf-focused yoga class is perfect for those interested in experiencing a visual yoga class. The class is presented in American Sign Language (ASL) and open to all experience levels.
All too often there are expectations that Deaf community members can and should enter hearing yoga classes and that it is easy to follow along. This yoga class is designed for yoga aspirants and/or teachers that want to step into the reverse experience - participate in an ASL-only, visual yoga class. You will see how simple it is to follow along, as well as gain some insight into how to make simple accommodations for Deaf yogis. Open to all and everyone is encouraged to attend, regardless of ASL knowledge.
