Elizabeth Farians PhD; a former professor of Theology at Xavier University and founder of the Xavier student organization Advocates for Animals, a pioneer woman theologian, veteran feminist and lifetime animal person. Elizabeth is featured in the book “Feminists Who Changed America” (B. Love, Ed.) and helped found the National Organization for Women in 1966 and started its Task Force on Women and Religion. To work with Catholic Church on equality for women she set up the Joint Committee of Organizations Concerned about the Status of Women in the Church, which held a historic meeting with the American Catholic Bishops in 1970. Elizabeth still works closely with leaders in the Catholic Church on women’s issues and animal rights and the connections between the two. She created the non-profit organization A.P.E. as an educational resource for information on how people can live a more ethical and sustainable life by seeing the connection between animals, people and the earth.
